Children's minister in England, Edward Timpson MP, has backed the 2015 Foster Care Fortnight campaign.

Edward Timpson MP, whose own family fostered around 90 children, says: “As someone who grew up in a large fostering family, I know only too well that not only do those who foster often find it a hugely rewarding experience, but most importantly, the impact on the children they've cared for - and connected with - can be life changing.​

“Every child deserves a loving home and the chance to thrive. As we mark Foster Care Fortnight, it’s vital that as many people as possible, from all walks of life, are encouraged to both think about fostering and go on to take that positive step of opening up their home to children in real need of their help.”

The Fostering Network says that 6,900 new foster carers need to be recruited by fostering services in England during 2015 to support the rising number of children coming into foster care, and to ensure that children coming into care can have the right fostering placement at the first time of asking. 

There is also an urgent need for more foster carers to come forward to foster teenagers, disabled children and sibling groups.
