Funding from the Scottish Government
In response to the news that The Fostering Network has received funding from The Scottish Government’s Children, Young People and Families Early Intervention and Adult Learning and Empowering Communities Fund, Sara Lurie, director of The Fostering Network Scotland, said: ‘We are delighted to have received new core funding from the Scottish Government. The funding will allow us to continue supporting fostering families as they look after over 5,500 fostered children and young people every day.
‘Over three-quarters of the children in care who are looked after away from home and family are being looked after by foster carers, and our role in supporting those carers and advocating for them has never been more important. Foster carers perform an invaluable duty on behalf of the state, one that really serves the whole community in Scotland. We are very pleased that this has been recognised by the Scottish Government.
‘I am particularly pleased that this funding will enable us to carry on running Fosterline Scotland which received over 1,250 calls during 2015. It is a vital lifeline to so many foster carers and others within the fostering community.’
