Reclaimcare.co.uk commended at Scottish Creative Awards
Reclaimcare.co.uk , a meme generator tackling some of the stigma surrounding being in care, which was developed as part of The Fostering Network’s Inspiring Voices project, has been commended in two categories in the Scottish Creative Awards.
At this month’s awards, reclaimcare.co.uk was commended in the Online Campaign and Digital/Social Media Strategy categories.
The web platform, developed by award-winning creative agency Lewis, who are based in Edinburgh, is a simple but very effective tool which enables care experienced young people to challenge and change public perceptions of what being in care really means.
Melissa Green, director of operations at The Fostering Network, said: ‘The whole Inspiring Voices project sought to give care experienced young people the opportunity to have a genuine say in the way care works, and also to help them challenge some of the stigma that being in care can bring. Reclaimcare.co.uk is a very important part of doing that.
‘The amazing young people we worked with to develop the platform, and those who have subsequently shared their achievements, wanted a way to share their achievements, however big or small, in a way that they could be proud of. We are very grateful to Lewis for working with us to come up with something that exceeded our expectations, is extremely creative, and which genuinely gives young people a voice.’
Kari Yoshime, senior designer at Lewis, said: ‘It was a privilege to be asked by The Fostering Network to help to deliver such an important awareness campaign. Not only was it creatively fantastic to work on, it was genuinely inspiring to watch so many young people with care experience share such positive stories, challenge stereotypes and make the campaign their own. The success of the campaign and the Scottish Creative Awards commendations wouldn’t have happened without those young people.’
