The Scottish Government’s acting minister for children and young people, Fiona McLeod, has given her backing to foster care across the country as we celebrate Fostering in Scotland day this Foster Care Fortnight 2015.

Fiona McLeod, Acting Minister for Children and Young People, said: “Research clearly shows that good foster parents make a world of difference to the experience of children and young people. They improve daily life; support progress in education; give stability and security; build confidence and lay the foundations for a successful adult life.

“Every year for Foster Care Fortnight, The Fostering Network showcases just how many extraordinary people like this there are across the country - but there is always a need for more. I am delighted to lend my support to this year’s campaign and hope that it encourages more families to come forward.”

At least 750 more foster families are needed across Scotland this year alone to look after the rising number of children in care who need fostering. There are now over 5,500 children who are fostered in Scotland.

Foster Care Fortnight is The Fostering Network's annual campaign to raise the profile of fostering and highlight the need for more foster carers. Fostering in Scotland Day offers an opportunity as part of the campaign to celebrate the amazing work that foster carers do across Scotland, and to highlight the need for 750 more foster families.
