The Fostering Network has today launched this year’s ‘Tick the Box’ campaign, which is urging care experienced young people to access the additional support available to them at university, at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast. 

As the Head, Heart, Hands programme has reached its halfway point, we are gathering evidence from the participating fostering services about the positive impact that social pedagogy is beginning to have on the lives of children and young people and the foster carers and other professionals who support them. 

The Scottish Government is seeking foster carers and fostering services views on pre and post approval fostering training and are calling on them to respond to a consultation that is now available on the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) website.

Following today’s publication of the Government’s response to the consultation on looked-after children: improving permanence in England, The Fostering Network’s policy manager Madeleine Tearse said: “The Fostering Network welcomes the Government's decision to strengthen long-term foster care as a permanence option. Long-term foster care is the permanence option of choice for many children, yet it has not previously had the status or support it requires. The legal changes proposed will help to reinforce security and stability for many fostered children. 

Children’s minister in England, Edward Timpson MP, has thanked the sons and daughters of foster carers, and the services who support these young people who make an invaluable contribution to fostering, during The Fostering Network’s Sons and Daughters campaign.

London Fostering Achievement, an innovative new programme delivered by The Fostering Network in partnership with Achievement for All aimed at improving educational outcomes for children in foster care, was launched yesterday at City Hall, London.

The Fostering Network has welcomed the Scottish Government’s update on progress around the National Review of Foster Care.

A new book, A Kitchen Table Revolution, documenting the work of The Fostering Network has been released as part of the celebrations of our 40th year.

The Fostering Network’s annual conference, The Future of Foster Care, saw care leavers, foster carers, social workers and other professionals come together to examine how fostering will change in the years to come.
