The Fostering Network has welcomed the Scottish Government’s update on progress around the National Review of Foster Care.

A new book, A Kitchen Table Revolution, documenting the work of The Fostering Network has been released as part of the celebrations of our 40th year.

The Fostering Network’s annual conference, The Future of Foster Care, saw care leavers, foster carers, social workers and other professionals come together to examine how fostering will change in the years to come.

The first annual Fostering Excellence awards have taken place at BMA House, London, on Wednesday 1 October, presented by the UK’s leading fostering charity, The Fostering Network.

The Fostering Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate excellence and outstanding achievement in foster care, honour the achievements of young care leavers and acknowledge the valuable contribution that sons and daughters make to the fostering household.

Four categories of award were presented on the night by president of The Fostering Network, Jim Bond:

Three high flying brothers who grew up in a foster family have added their support to this year’s Sons & Daughters campaign, beginning on 1 October.

The Fostering Network is calling on local authorities in England to disclose to foster carers all information available about the children coming into their care, following a survey of foster carers. 

Last weekend 15 adventurers including foster carers conquered the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, to raise £4,000 to support the ongoing work of The Fostering Network.

Robert Tapsfield has left The Fostering Network after 10 years as the charity's chief executive. During his time at the helm Robert successfully led The Fostering Network through a period of growth and change, including the achievement of wide ranging campaign successes, most recently the right for young people to stay with their foster families beyond the age of 18 in England, Scotland and Wales.

The Fostering Network is backing calls made this weekend for the government to introduce an entitlement to support for children and families when they return home from care after it was revealed in a new report that an estimated £300 million is spent each year on failed reunifications of families in England.

The Fostering Network is looking for five new trustees to join the board and help the charity continue its work with foster families and fostering services, in order to ensure that fostered children can achieve the very best they can.
